Recently I noticed that I was missing some male model portraits in my portfolio.  As the weather was so nice this summer, I thought that it would be good to get some beach shots.  Shooting male models is easy (or less work) in that makeup artists are not required and the models would be ready to go when they arrive on set, but its often challenging to find the angle that captures and show their body in the best way through the use of light and shadows.  I had a lot of fun doing these beach shoots!

Sonja - Bridal Shoot 07/24/10

Cindy, the makeup artist, and I collaborated on a bridal shoot last weekend.  I loved the natural makeup that Cindy put on Sonja; she looks stunning in her wedding gown.  Here are my favorite photos from the photoshoot:

Amy - 07/11/10

Amy wanted to do a beach bikini photoshoot.  Thought that it would be a good opportunity to take my bike out for Amy to pose with~  My finger therapist (injured it from volleyball quite some time ago) suggested me to check out Crescent Beach, as there is nice scenary for the background and I can roll my bike in relatively easily.  Glad we did it there.  It's an awesome location and we picked the perfect time/day to go.

Long been waiting for a sunny day in Vancouver, Katie and I went to English Bay for a beach photoshoot.   Katie's a great model.  Although she's only 17, she connects with the camera very well~

Bridal Shoots

I worked with several makeup artists recently to build up each others' bridal portfolio.  With the great efforts of the artists, the brides look stunning!

Here are a few pictures taken with Heather, who is an international cheerleading team's coach.  Tessa brought along a costume with her in doing her makeup too~ A 1980s with a very vibrant colors look?!

Vanessa - 06/20/2010

I have long been waiting for this weather to do a photoshoot on the beach.  The weather has not been cooperating for over a month now.  Due to the unsteady forecasts, Vanessa and I could not firm up the details of our photoshoot until the day of the shoot.  Except for getting a parking ticket and getting my cellphone wet on the beach, I'm quite happy with the results.  Vanessa has a great attitude and she's a lot of fun to work with.

Painting with Light - 6/10/2010

Did some light painting with Matt and Jasmine today.  The pictures look pretty cool don't you think?!

Tried out a couple of different lighting styles:


1) Flat lighting - strobe shooting from the ceiling above Vanessa; having a scrim on top of Vanessa's head creating a big light source, and 3 fill cards surrounding her (one in front of her bouncing light from strobe back to her face, and one on each side of her).  Another strobe shooting at the background.

 

2) Shutter drag - 1 second exposure capturing the ambient light from the projected light (using colored glass bottles and gel cards) shooting at the background, while Melissa's accurately exposed as the main subject.

3) Gradient lighting - trying to create a  lighting that is gradually fading off from one side to the other.  On the subject, it's brighter on the right side than the left and on the background it's brighter on the left than the right.

Zombie Shoot - 05/24/2010

Model Mandy, makeup artist Tessa and I did a slit-throat photoshoot a few months ago. Tessa is awesome with special effects makeup. The photos from the previous shoot looked very real:

This time we did a zombie theme. After 2 hours of makeup, we walked to an alley close by and took a couple of shots there. People were stunned of how Mandy looked and it was a lot of fun doing the photoshoot. The following are my favorites:
